Years in leadership
Michael Andrew Skudera is a healthcare leader, author, and advocate for a more compassionate, authentic approach to leadership.
With 25 years of experience in healthcare and more than 15 years in leadership, Michael has dedicated his career to building teams, developing people, navigating organizational challenges, and creating environments where employees feel supported, respected, and empowered to succeed.
Throughout his career, Michael has held leadership positions with some of New Jersey's most recognized healthcare organizations, including Hackensack Meridian Health, RWJBarnabas Health, and DaVita Kidney Care.
His experience spans hospital operations, patient access, healthcare administration, team development, and organizational leadership.
Along the way, he has learned that successful leadership requires much more than meeting performance metrics or achieving financial objectives. It requires the ability to connect with people, earn their trust, make difficult decisions, and lead with integrity.
Michael's professional contributions have included recognition through Hackensack Meridian Health's Hall of Fame and leading initiatives that supported healthcare operations and the communities they serve.
A graduate of Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration, Michael is currently pursuing his Master of Health Administration at Louisiana State University Shreveport. He is also a member of the Alpha Eta Society, the national honor society for allied health professions.
THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND HEART-LED LEADERSHIP
Michael believes the best leaders understand that compassion and accountability are not competing priorities. They are essential components of effective leadership.
His philosophy has been shaped not only by professional achievements but also by difficult decisions, leadership challenges, personal growth, and moments that required him to reevaluate what meaningful leadership truly looks like.
These experiences inspired his debut book, Heart-Led Leadership: Transforming Organizations with Compassion and Integrity, published in September 2026.
Through the book and its companion podcast, Michael challenges traditional leadership practices and encourages leaders to create organizational cultures grounded in trust, empathy, responsibility, and human connection.
BEYOND THE WORKPLACE
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Michael resides in New Jersey. Outside his professional career, he is a father, writer, sports enthusiast, and lifelong learner.
His experiences have reinforced a belief that guides both his personal and professional life:
Leadership isn't about being perfect. It's about being present. It's about having the courage to care.
Today, Michael continues to share his experiences through writing, podcasting, and speaking opportunities, encouraging leaders to measure their success not only by what they accomplish but by the impact they leave on others.
